Early Life

Born as Curtis James Jackson III on July 6 1975 in Queens, New York, 50 Cents was raised in a South Jamaican neighbourhood. His mother Sabrina was a drug dealer and died in a fire when Jackson was 8. Jackson was then cared for by his grandmother. At 12 years old, he became interested in boxing before becoming a regular at his local boxing club. Allegedly, Jackson got into narcotics when he was 13 and was caught with a gun when he was studying at Andrew Jackson High School. In 1994, he was then caught red-handed for selling four vials of cocaine and again three weeks later for the ten ounces of heroin. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison, served only 6 months in a boot camp and earned a GED certification. Jackson claimed that he was never a cocaine user. His nickname 50 Cent was inspired by the 1980 Brooklyn Robber who was also known by the same name because he thinks it embodies him as a person who provides for his own self by any means possible.

Career

Jackson, who began rapping in his basement, was introduced to Jam Master Jay who was by that time beginning to establish his own record label. Jay helped train Jackson’s song writing and rapping skills. His very first rapping appearance was for the 1998 album Shut ‘Em Down by Onyx. Jackson was signed to Columbia Records in 1999 and was sent to New York where he was able to produce 36 songs in half a month. Half of these were included in his 2000 album entitled Power of the Dollar.

Jackson became popular after he put out the single How to Rob which talks about how he will comically rob famous artists. The single garnered attention of many people and artists even landing him a guest appearance in Nas’ Nastradamus tour. How to Rob was supposed to be released with Destiny’s Child’s Thug Love but Jackson was shot two days prior to shooting the music video. He was gunned down by the assailant with a 9mm hand gun that gave him nine gunshot wounds forcing him to stay in hospital for 13 days, after which he underwent recovery for 6 weeks. Jackson was dropped by Columbia Records after he was blacklisted by the recording industry because of his song Ghetto Qu’ran. Jackson then went to Canada and tried to re-establish his career by making mixed tapes and distributing them to the markets with the help of business partner Sha Money XL. With the DJs constantly using his creations, Jackson soon increased in popularity and in 2002, he released the mixtapes entitled Guess Who’s Back? followed by 50 Cent is the Future which was supported by G-Unit. Eminem was impressed with Jackson and invited him to LA so he could introduce him to Dr. Dre.

Jackson then signed a $1 million deal and released the album No Mercy, No Fear with one track that was featured in Eminem’s 8 Mile soundtrack. He was then signed with Violator Management and Money Management Group and released his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and also selling out 872,000 copies within four days shortly after the release. The lead single In da Club holds the record for being the most listened to song in radio history within one week.

Jackson now has his own label, G-Unit Records which he started in 2003 with the help of Interscope. He released his 2nd album entitled The Massacre in 2005 and sold 1.14 million copies within 4 days since the release. The album was also on the top spot in Billboard 200 for six weeks. The singles Candy Shop, Disco Inferno, How We Do were all in the Billboard Top 5 in the same week. His third album Curtis was released in 2007 selling 691,000 copies on its first week. He also released other albums such as Ok, You’re Right on 2008, Before I Self Destruct on 2009, Animal Ambition on 2014, and Street King Immortal on 2015.

You know, you only get one family, and you have to make it work.Tori Spelling

Everybody knows there is no such thing as normal. There is no black-and-white definition of normal. Normal is subjective. There’s only a messy, inconsistent, silly, hopeful version of how we feel most at home in our lives.Tori Spelling

With friends, if you keep making an effort to reach out and you keep getting hurt, you eventually stop trying. But it’s much harder to give up on family. Somewhere deep down you want it to work so badly that you keep making the same mistake over and over again.Tori Spelling

We chose to do a reality show with my husband Dean McDermott, because we wanted to give the reality of our situation, not to kind of mask it if the things got kind of uncomfortable. So we pretty much put it all out there and I think the viewers will appreciate that.Tori Spelling

That I want to try in life? There’s a lot of things I want to try. There’s never enough time to try anything. I would love to have a hobby. I have no hobbies.Tori Spelling

People are always saying that Hollywood messes up kids. I’m like, ‘No, families mess up kids!’ I grew up in Hollywood, and I’m perfectly fine. If my children want to go into the entertainment business, I won’t stop them, as long as they’re passionate about it.Tori Spelling

My kids will grow up in a house knowing that it’s perfectly normal for two men to be in love, it’s perfectly normal for two women to be in love. My kids will grow up knowing it’s all about love. It doesn’t matter who you’re with and everyone should have that experience.Tori Spelling

I look at Liv Tyler and think ‘It’s not fair’, because I can’t find a flaw on her. And on top of that she seems nice, so it’s really not fair.Tori Spelling

I have a really, really strong work ethic and I learned that from my dad because my dad was a workaholic but he always had even more time for us. As hard as he would work, he always made the time. So it’s just about balancing family, I think, and work – and giving everything 100%. And that’s what he taught me.Tori Spelling
